As someone who grew up hating swimming largely due to poor technique, I think the stroke taught by Total Immersion is wonderful. Unfortunately, whether it was intentional to sell lessons or just due to a lack of thought, the book and the accompanying DVD have awful pedagogy and make it very difficult to actually learn.
